Two weeks ago the Blue Ridge Parkway had a very exciting VIP adventure! A member of one of the Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway chapters went on a volunteer ‘road trip.’ The Parkway is 469 miles long, and has thousands of signs along the way, marking overlooks, mileposts, cultural and natural resource information, and general directions. The maintenance of these signs is no small task. Libby worked with Park staff to organize her use of an NPS vehicle, and a supply of all the appropriate paints and supplies. She also worked with the Friends organization to support her logistically. Armed with paint brushes and soapy water, Libby drove the entire length of the Parkway, painting and washing hundreds of signs along the way. To read more about her awesome work, see this article in the Asheville Citizen-Times.
