Fire Island National Seashore served as a viewing location for this year’s Holiday Boat Parade this past Sunday.  While the weather was a bit dreary, that didn’t stop families from coming out to admire all the ornate boats coming down the Patchogue River.  This event was a great way to connect with Patchogue Village while hitching onto an already successful event.  It enables Fire Island National Seashore and the National Park Service to promote their work and goals while not having to do all the legwork of recruiting and planning a park-specific event.  Rangers and volunteers greeted guests outside while Friends of Fire Island members sold snacks and hot beverages inside as a fundraiser.  The National Park Service’s boat was decked out with an American flag created with holiday lights as well as a banner showcasing the Fire Island and Centennial logos.  It was a job well done by Fire Island’s Centennial Committee and all involved!
